Family-Friendly Accommodations in Italy
Most of our stays in Italy were Airbnbs—except for one charming hotel in Siena. As a family of four, we needed space to spread out, a kitchen for snacks and quick meals, laundry (we pack light!), and that cozy “home away from home” vibe. Cramped, adjoining hotel rooms? Hard pass.
This list has the exact spots we stayed during our trip. Heads up: the Airbnb in Praiano isn’t available right now, but I’m still including it because the host has another incredible listing in Positano that’s just as impressive.
Airbnb listings are in constant flux, so use this list as a guide to find family-friendly places that check the boxes for space, location, and solid reviews. Speaking of reviews, I’m picky—I won’t even glance at anything under 4 stars, and honestly, I’m aiming for 4.9 or higher. Oh, and one more thing: READ THE REVIEWS! Seriously, they’re your best friend for avoiding surprises (and not the good kind).

The Last Supper
This Airbnb was the perfect starting point for our travels. Luckily, we were able to check in early, which was absolute music to our ears after a long flight and an early morning arrival. The location couldn’t have been better: walkable to many must-see sites and conveniently located for easy Uber and taxi pickups. The space was spotless, thoughtfully equipped with every comfort we needed, and just right for our family of four!
Venice
Our next stop was Venice, and naturally, my top priority was finding an Airbnb with a canal view. We truly hit the jackpot with this expansive, modern apartment, with two window seats allowing us to marvel at the gondolas as they passed. My kids basically lived on these window seats! Beyond that, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the A/C worked like a charm, and we even had the convenience of laundry. Additionally, the location was absolutely perfect, making it easy to explore the city. All in all, we fell in love with this place and, without hesitation, would stay here again!
Florence
Florence was pure magic, and our Airbnb made it feel like home. First off, the location was absolutely “Bellissima!”—we could easily walk to all the major sights. On top of that, the space was ideal for our family, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax after exploring. And let me tell you, the washer and dryer setup here was the most American-friendly we encountered anywhere in Italy—such a win!
The superhost went above and beyond, meeting us at check-in with snacks and starter groceries to get us settled. As if that wasn’t enough, he arranged our taxi at check-out and even came by to say, “Ciao!” Florence quickly became my favorite Italian city, and honestly, our amazing Airbnb experience had a lot to do with it.
Siena
Hotel Borgo Grondaie in Siena felt like our own little Tuscan hideaway! We absolutely loved the lush gardens and refreshing pool—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. I booked us in the Apartment Cipresso, which had 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and a small kitchen. We opted for breakfast (delivered directly to our apartment), which created a relaxing start to our mornings. Free parking was a huge perk since we arrived with a rental car (which is definitely required in this area). While it’s a bit of a walk to central Siena, it’s totally doable, even with kids in tow.
This was the perfect launchpad for exploring Tuscany’s hotspots like San Gimignano, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino. I can’t rave enough about Hotel Borgo Grondaie—it truly hit the sweet spot for our family. Some of our fondest memories are of lounging by the pool under the Tuscan sun while the kids happily splashed their hearts out. Relaxation for us, endless fun for them—a win-win all around! This was everything you could want in family-friendly accommodations in Italy.
Naples

If you’ve decided that Naples’ historic center (Centro Storico) is where you want to stay, this Airbnb is a fantastic choice. We loved the apartment’s quiet, peaceful space—a rarity in such a bustling city. Plus, we felt completely safe and secure in the building, which was a major relief considering it’s right in the heart of the action. If we ever return to Naples without kids, I wouldn’t hesitate to book this place again.
That said, if you’re traveling with little ones, I’d personally recommend staying in the Chiaia neighborhood instead. While the historic center is full of charm (and ancient history), it’s also incredibly hectic. The narrow streets are packed with people, cars, and motorbikes, making it tricky to navigate with small children in tow. Chiaia offers a more family-friendly vibe while still giving you access to everything Naples has to offer.

For my beach-loving families, Sorrento is the perfect home base for exploring the Amalfi Coast. This Airbnb couldn’t have been better for my family of four—it had the ideal location and layout. It was exactly what we wanted: clean, comfortable, and right in the heart of everything. The balcony overlooking the busy markets became one of our favorite spots, offering endless entertainment for people-watching. Yet, despite the lively vibe outside, the apartment stayed blissfully quiet once we closed the balcony doors.
The host was fantastic, keeping communication seamless and even meeting us in Piazza Sant’Antonino to help with our luggage. Since the apartment is in the historic (and pedestrian-only) town center, our driver dropped us at the Piazza, and the host guided us on a short walk to the Airbnb. Everything about this stay was spot-on, and I’d book it again in a heartbeat!
Praiano

The Praiano Airbnb where we stayed is no longer listed, but don’t worry—the same host offers a fabulous listing in Positano, which is already on my radar for our next Amalfi Coast adventure. I’ll share that below.
As for our Praiano stay, the Airbnb was conveniently located right above the restaurant La Moressa, a must-visit spot for its spectacular food and an ambiance I can only describe as Mediterranean magic. If you’re planning a stay in Praiano, I highly recommend finding a place near La Moressa. Not only is it perched above a handy little grocery store we frequented, but the area is also packed with walkable dining options along Via Umberto I. During our stay, we dined at La Posteria, M’ama! (seriously, the views!), and Kasai—each one was unforgettable.
One more thing to love about Praiano: it’s refreshingly less crowded than Positano, making it a peaceful yet equally stunning base for your Amalfi Coast getaway.
Rome
The last stop on our Italy tour was Rome. With this Airbnb, I focused more on location than space, which meant the girls got cozy on a pull-out sofa. While they didn’t have their own room, the apartment made up for it by being super clean, modern, and cleverly laid out.
As I said, the location was key, and this Airbnb hit the mark. Situated in the Campo Marzio area, we were just steps away from iconic spots like the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. Directly outside our Airbnb was a great gelato shop to the left and a small but amazing restaurant to the right, Cantina Belsiana (seriously, so good). Strolling a little further, you’ll find yourself surrounded by all the shops, cafes, and even more gelaterias. Despite being in the middle of all this vibrant activity, the Airbnb was a quiet, cool oasis—thank goodness for the A/C!
To top it all off, our host was wonderful—super helpful and easy to reach. She even arranged our taxi pickup on our last day, making our Roman farewell completely stress-free.
